Lady Gaga is set to make a grand return to the MTV Video Music Awards in 2025 after a five-year break. The pop diva, known for her electrifying performances and bold fashion choices, will perform at this year’s event on September 7. This marks her first appearance since she wowed audiences with Ariana Grande at the virtual awards in 2020.
The MTV VMAs Instagram account announced the exciting news on August 30. “There will be magic in the air at the 2025 #VMAs because @LADYGAGA IS PERFORMING!” they posted, adding that viewers won’t want to miss her return.
Lady Gaga has certainly been busy this year. She’s leading the nominations with twelve nods, including Artist of the Year and Album of the Year for her latest work, “Mayhem.” Her music video for “Abracadabra” also earned nominations for Best Direction, Best Art Direction, and Best Cinematography. Additionally, her collaboration with Bruno Mars on “Die with a Smile” is up for Best Pop, Best Collaboration, Song of the Year, and Video of the Year.
Currently, Gaga is on her Mayhem Ball Tour, stopping next in Miami before heading to cities like New York and Toronto. She plans to take her tour across Europe from late September through November. Earlier this year, she performed at Coachella and gave a record-breaking free concert at Rio de Janeiro’s Copacabana Beach.
Other performers set to light up the VMAs stage include Sabrina Carpenter, Ricky Martin, J Balvin featuring DJ Snake and Busta Rhymes. Post Malone and Doja Cat are also among those scheduled to perform. Mariah Carey will receive the Video Vanguard Award and deliver a medley of her hits during the ceremony.
The award show airs live from UBS Arena in New York City on Sunday night at 8 p.m. ET on CBS and MTV; it’s also available for streaming on Paramount+.
